This trail follows the footsteps of the old villagers of Hortiatis who, on cold winter nights, would climb the mountain to make ice, later selling it to affluent families in Thessaloniki. The hike takes you along a traditional stone-paved path, leading through the dense beech forest to the Hortiatis mountain shelter, about 4 kilometers from the starting point. Here, we’ll enjoy a relaxing stop where, if the shelter is open, we can savor a coffee or snack, surrounded by the natural beauty of the area. On the way back, the trail offers stunning views and experiences from start to finish.
