About Kea
Kea, also known as Tzia, is the westernmost island of the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea, located close to the coast of Attica. It is one of the most accessible Cycladic islands from Athens, especially via the port of Lavrio.
The island features a diverse landscape of rolling hills, oak forests, traditional stone-built villages, and sheltered bays. Its main settlements include Ioulida, Koundouros, and Vourkari, each offering a mix of history, local culture, and seaside life. Kea is also known for archaeological sites such as the ancient Lion of Kea and the ancient city of Karthea.
Today, Kea is a popular destination for weekend homes, sailing, and quiet tourism. It attracts visitors seeking a combination of natural beauty, proximity to Athens, and a more relaxed Cycladic atmosphere compared to more crowded islands.
