Kastania
 |
The village of Kastania is located 58 km from Trikala, in the northwestern part of the region. It is a beautiful mountain village in the southern Pindus mountains, built at an altitude of 850 meters and surrounded by lush greenery. The area is rich in firs, pines, beeches, walnut trees, chestnuts, and apple trees. Its architecture is traditional, characterized by well-preserved mansions that resemble small fortresses. The village¢s cobblestone streets and squares, lined with centuries-old plane trees, evoke the charm of past eras.
During the Ottoman period, Kastania was home to the “Dimostergeios School”, where some of the best teachers of the time taught.
Visitors should also see the Church of Saint Athanasios, dating back to 1757, and the Church of Saint Nicholas, both miraculously preserved despite the village being burned by the Germans.
Kastania offers hotels and guesthouses, providing comfortable accommodation. A stay in the village is unforgettable, as it combines peacefulness—with opportunities for leisure—with nature trails and scenic walks through the surrounding green landscapes.
