Verdikousa is a mountain village in the Larissa region, located 25 km from Elassona.
It is built on the eastern slopes of the Antichasia mountains at an altitude of 850 meters. The village is also known as Verdikousia. It was formed through the unification of nine smaller settlements in the surrounding area.
During your stay in Verdikousa, it is worth visiting the village¢s churches: the stone-built Church of Prophet Elias, the chapels of Perasa and Saint George, as well as the old monastery at Metochi. You should also see the old stone-built Primary School of the village, located at Platania. Another remarkable landmark is the traditional stone Damaskinos Bridge, which connects the banks of the Paliskiotis River.
A delightful surprise awaits nature enthusiasts who dare to climb Mamali Peak, at 1,424 meters. The view from the top is breathtaking, offering sights of the Pindus mountains, Meteora, Northern Agrafa, Tymfristos, Giona, Oiti, Kissavos, and Olympus.
An area of 15,000 stremmas (approximately 15 km²) serves as a wildlife refuge, dominated by beech forests, one of the largest of its kind in Greece. This forest is part of the NATURA 2000 European program, providing an important habitat for birds of prey, foxes, wild boars, hares, and other wildlife.
