The Archaeological Collection of Paleopolis was established in 2003. It is located in the homonym settlement, roofed under a building, subsidy of Goulandris’ Institution. The museum is dedicated to the antiquities of Paleopolis, giving emphasis to the classic city that was for 12 centuries (6^th century BC-6^th century AC) the island’s capital.
In the collections you will see findings from the 5^th millenium to the 6^th BC. Vessels, tools, jewels, statuettes, coins, etc. are some of the museum’s exhibits.
Highly impressive is the marble sculpture showing the winged Horse Pegasus with Vellerefonti. It was the point of a temple and it is dated from the end of the 6^th century to the beginnings of the 5^thBC. Distinguishes the marble lion in natural size, found in the cemetery of Paleopolis.
