The Arhondiko Zarkada was built with a great artistry here in Monodendri, Zagori (Ioannina - Greece). Every now and again new rooms are being built so that the guests will get the best service.
Monodendri is one of the most beautiful villages of Zagori, built 1060 metres above the sea level, 39 km from Ioannina. It was named after a very big fir-tree which was situated there until 1840. Until 1753 it was a settlement which consisted of three quarters (Vitsa, Ano Mahalas, Agios Georgios).
In the 17th and 18th century it enjoyed great prosperity when benefactors endowed it with mansion houses, churches and schools. The benefactors Rizari Bros come from Monodendri.
Nowadays, Monodendri is an attraction pole for all the visitors from Greece or abroad the whole year round. The substructure and service are very good; the Rooms for rent - Arhondiko Zarkada covers all the terms and conditions for pleasant holidays.
The Arhondiko Zarkada offers traditional beakfast with pure products from Epirus: Traditional dishes and pies from Zagori are also served (chicken pies, vegetable pies), kokoretsi, kondosouvli and roast lamb. The service is excellent.
The Arhondiko offers 19 rooms. Thirteen of them are double, four are triple, one is 4-beded and a suite.
For the cold winter nights, we have at your disposal rooms with fireplace.
Having Arhondiko Zarkada in Monodendri Zagori as a base, one can visit all the numerous sights of central Zagori: For the hiker, the researcher botanist, the admirer of the bridges, the Byzantologist, for those who go in for sports (kayak, gliding, mountain bike, climbing etc. ), for those who study the traditional architecture, as well as folklore (museums of folk art, folk music etc), for the hunters, the lovers of nature with the rare species of fauna and flora (the most beautiful forests of beech, fir-trees, pine-trees and oak-trees) and the rivers, lakes and fountains.
All these are available as soon as you find the time to visit them.
At the same time the visitor will meet the warm hospitality of the inhabitants of the area as well as the food which is cooked with the traditional recipes from Zagori with pure ingredients.
